I'm a South Dakotan (it's in the USA guys!) living in Mongolia! I moved here in June, got married, and now am teaching English. It's an adventure!

This is my first post on my very own "blog"... I kinda stole the idea from another teacher here at my school. He's blogging (about what, I'm not sure), and I figured if he can do it, I can too.

If you are just reading this out of the blue, I am a teacher in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. I moved here in June 2006 and took a job. I also got married in July 2006 to a Mongolian man! That's the least of the story... I'm from South Dakota, USA, and I'll tell more in the next posting. It's time to go home now!

To be continued.....

I think that your comments are truly insightful and some quite hilarious. I to am from USA not far from where you lived. I have visited Mongolia in the past year and have seen some of the same things that you speak of. Unfortunately, I was not able to go camping or visit the "countryside" as the Mongolians call it. I did see some amazing similarities as well as differences to the two cultures. One thing that sticks with me is that the mongolian people seem to take care of themselves to a great extent. Personal appearance, weight control and stylish clothing even though they don't have the same resources that many cultures have.
And obeisity, what obeisity. There is minimal healthcare and And nobody needs gastric bypass. Icredible. I think USA might be able to learn a thing or two here.
Good work Sheridan. Keep it up.
